ASSOCIATION OF BRITISH CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE. REPARATIONS, TAXATION AND
BANKRUPTCY.
It was announed at the quarterly meeting of the Association of British Chambers of Commerce, held at the Vie toria Hotel on January 17th, that the Prince of Wales hail kouzented to be the guest of the association at the annual dinner.
Sir Arthur Shirley Benn, M.P. (Presi dent), dealing with taxation, said thers wore a number of things the association intended to press on the Chancellor of the Exchequer. They would like to see some- thing taken off the income-tax and the beer and amusement taxes, and the cor- poration tax taken away. There was a rast field in which they could ask for conocesions, and they would do their best to get them in conformity with the Chan- cellor getting sufficient taxation to pay our way. A committes had considered the question of unemployment, and it was hoped to approach the Government on the subject before Parliament met.
The President then formally moved; and Mr. A. Balfour seconded, the following resolution, which was carried:---
The Association of British Chambers of Commerce feels that the present drifting of the reparations question is highly in jurious to the industry and commerce of the country, and is delaying the improve ment of our export trade and the fuller employment of our people. It is con- sidered that:-*
(a) A moratorium for Germany for an agreed number of years is imperative,
(B) A reparations sum must be immed- iately Axed which Germany can fly with- in & reasonable, number of years without detriment to the Allies trade,
(c) If pressure has to be brought to bear on Germany to enforce reparations, the form of such pressure must be agreed between, the Allies and put into operation to end the present uncertainty.

A motion was brought forward by Shef. feld urging the Government to abolish tho Corporation Profits Tax, which, as two Chancellors of the. Exchequer have admitted, presses unfairly on the section of the community, and which is prevent ing phy flow of capital into industry and
commerce.
"Sir Albert T. Hobson (Sheffield) em- phasized the argency of action in this connection. At the present time, he said;
