DEAD" MAN'S DOUBLE. TWO WIVES IDENTIFY" THE BODY

The story of the claim of two women to be the wife of an unemployed marcher who died ne. Willesden had a remarkable bequel. It is now clear that the con- fusion arose from the fact that the man, Walter Tompkms, had a living counter- part of the same name, town, and age, the resemblance being heightened by the fact that be also báre, exactly similar head scars.

The solution of the mystery lies to the credit of the clerk to the Willesden GREAT CHOICELAND VARIETY. Guardians, who issued the following statement:-

"Walter Tompkins, one of the unem, ployed marchers to London, temporarily living at the Salvation Army Hall, Manor Park Road, Harlesden, was taken ill and admitted to the Park Royal Hospital ori November 23rd and died on November 23th.

"He stated that his wife, Mrs. Annie Tompkins, was living at Chase Street, Lutor. She was communicated with and visited him just before his death, and wrote a letter to the Guardians stating

"Before seeing the body she was asked to give a description of her husband, and ahe particularly mentioned a scar on the nose, a scar on the back of the head, blue eyes, reddish-brown moustache and bair, and height 3ft. 9.2/1.

She then viewed the body and identi fed the min as her husband. As the dead man had the marks referred to by ber, and the man's height and colour off eyes and hair agreed with the descrip tion, her statement was accepted, and Mrs. Fanny Harriett Tompkins signed na: instruction to the Guardians that as law-
