The Committee, consisting of Deep's Campbell, Mercer and Cleverly, reported that fur Webster had no legal claim, and that the resumption of the Land justified; but it is stated by Mr Webster and confirmed by Sir Bonham, that before this Committee was appointed two other Committees had sat on case. Mr Webster asserts that in his favor. Sir Bonham does not absolutely confirm their Report, but states that Major Caine (the Colonial Secretary) was President of each, and was of opinion in each instance that Mr Webster should receive compensation.

Mr Bonham describes the Land in question as a narrow strip, of no use to the military, entirely valueless except for the Buildings created by Mr Webster. It is at present occupied by Contractors and Carpenters belonging to the Engineer's Department; but the Governor states that he could give the military Authorities in exchange another piece of land with
