LONG VOYAGE IN A BOAT.

FROM SINGAPORE TO DATAVIA IN 98 DAYS.

There are a few people, in Singapore, the Straite Times says, who will recall the setting out from here about April lant of Captain George and Mr. Peter Dixon.in a small boat, with the object of making the voyage to Sydney in ber. The follow ing message from Sydney, dated October 19th, shows that they never got any fur ther than Batavia the rest of the voyage being done by the Marella:- V

Captain George of Melbourne, and Peter Dixon, an ex-planter, two parti cipants in a daring voyage undertaken some-moritha ago from Bingapore to Syd- ney in an open boat arrived in Sydney to-day from Bataris by the Marella. They set out to socomplish a voyago" of 3,000 miles by sea, in a boat 22 foot long, equipped with oars, sails, and an engine of 3 h.p., and after a terrific struggle against the vicinenty the men were eventu ally forced to give up the project.

The voyage from Singapore to Batavia, a distance of 560 miles, was accomplished In a days, during which time the little boat saw no land and put up a hard fight against stormy conditions. The adven turora had to contend with monsoon wen- ther, and according to Captain George, the little craft was not altogether suit- able for such a buge task. Towards the end of the voyage the boat began to open. up and was leaking considerably. On mearing Suniatra the craft was nearly wrecked in a dangerous sen, and whon they finally reached Batavia the journey had to be abandoned.
