The Extra Gymkhana Meeting a held at Happy Valley, on Saturday glomous weather and was a great success There were good felds, with the exep- tion of the race of the afternoon-ber: 68 Andrew's Stakes-which only drew four -startera This was probably due to the fact that it was a long-distance rade. However, it provided a very exciting finish, a very fine, struggle resulting for second place Roman Consul, Mr. Hector Sassoon's game old. pony, coming up well at the Baish only to be beaten as the winning post by Navajo Senut by a bead. This poop was not much fancied and re turned the beat dividend for this rage. Spotted Sand, the winner,, had matters well i hand after passing the Stand's three for the first time and came in rearly i Tengths in front of the Scout. It was the first time Spotted Sand, had run in amilo, and a half race and some doubts were expressed as to whether the pony could stay the distance but the race afforded the justification for the doubt,

A PALMIST'S WEDDING.
COMPLICATIONS OF AMERICAN LAW
Mme Isis, en Englishwoman who was proctising) for a time in Hongkong re cently as a palmist, and for some weeks past has been carrying on her, profession at the Palace Hotel, Shanghai, was served with a summons to appear before the Police Court to answer a charge under an old Act forbidding professional fortune telling. Subsequent to the service of the summons she was married to her advertise- ing manager, Me WF. Wallace, an American, whom she met in India. The ceremony, which took place before" Mr. E. S. Cunningham, U.8. Consul-General, was performed by the Rev. George A. Fitch.
Owing to the recent Jaw passed" in America whereby the wives of American citizens do not automatically become American, apparently Mme. Isia is stili amenable to British law, anys the N.C. Daily News. Although the US. Consil General is daily exporting a ruling sa to the status of women married to American „citizens in China since the recent act bo
came law, it is anticipated that she will retain her former nationality. Hence sho ia in the extraordinarily anomalous posi- tion of being charged with an alleged offence which is not contrary to the law of America. Neither is crystal gazing or palmistry forbidden under the Chinesd code, where the latter is looked upon as a respectable or even poble scupation.
