War Office,

25th April 1867.

I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 10th instant, transmitting copy of a despatch from the Governor of Hong Kong, dated 10th January last, with one enclosure, reporting the grant of a free passage to Madras to James Decker of the 98th Regiment, not 90th Regiment, accompanied by their families, in the Ship named in the margin, "Fart Balfour", in which they had volunteered to serve.

These men, with others, volunteered in 1845 for the above duty in the Colony, and their pensions were fixed by the Chelsea Board, but with an understanding that they were not to draw the same during their service.

This has before been intimated to the Authorities at Hong Kong, in similar cases, and the required information has been furnished.

On the last occasion, by Major Staveley, in a letter from Hong Kong, 28th July 1868.
