of Earl Grey that the Lords have informed the Officer in Charge of the Commissariat at Hong Kong thereof, and that he is not to consider himself authorised to let the Advances from the Commissariat Chest Exceed the grants for the same services for the year ending 31st March 1850, and My Lord's

request you will suggest to Earl Grey that in approving the Governor of the Instructions thus Conveyed to the Officer in charge of the Commissariat, he should be enjoined demanding advances from the Commissariat Chest to make due allowance for any payments to be made in this Country out of grants for either branch of the service under his supervision, either in discharge of Salaries of absent Officers or for any other purpose.
