Lord Grey likewise proposes to instruct the Governor that the Appointment of Clerk to the Supreme Court, held by Mr Alexander, cannot be vacated. The Third Clerk in the Treasury alluded to in your letter of the 19th of June last, Lord Grey thinks that there may have been some intimation that it was to be excepted. There are not any circumstances in this case. It may be filled up again after him, and to direct the Governor so to apprise the Chief Justice.

It only remains to notice the position of The Honourable ... whatever in the Government Despatch that this office is unnecessary, on that he considers it one which has a right to be abolished. All which casually appear is
