DRAMA.
Sir H. Mullaby-Deeley, M.P., who re ecivel a Baronetry in the recent Birthday list of honours, and the Duke of Leinster, a young Irish Peer, are the central figures. in a remarkable drama concerning the dis- posal of one of the most magnificent and bistoric estates Ireland.
When the fifth Duke of Leinster diod in 1893, he left three sons, all hou were thinors, and were placed in charge of an aunt. The eldest, then a child of si, succeeded to the title, but owing to delicate health he never took his scut in the House of Lords..
The presont Duke was Lori Siward Fitzgerald, and as, with two senior brothers still living, there was little prospect at the time of his succeeding to the title, he dis- posed of his reversionary rights in the family estate. The purchaser was Sir Harry Mallaby Deeley, M. P., and he is said to have obtained the rights for a 'relatively moderate sum.
The investment turned out a sound one For Sir Harry Malaby-Deeley; for Lord Desmond, the Duke's brother, was killed in the war, and the sixth Dake himself died a few months ago, Lord Edward Fitzgerald roming into the title, and Sir Harry into the proprietorship of the historic house.
The Leinster seat in Ireland is Carton, Mayrouth, Co Kildare, a mansion with a vast domain, which has been in the family since the Norman English conquest of Ireland."
