While expressing our sentiments of these important services we cannot pass over those performed by Capt. Lockyer of the steamer "Medea" to whom our best thanks are likewise due for the destruction of 5 Piratical Junks on the West Coast, & discovering the strength of these powerful fleets.

We need not point out the necessity of peace & safety in the successful prosecution of trade generally & particularly to a colony like Hongkong which is still in its infancy.

it combined with the continued watchfulness and exertions of the Commanders of Her Majesty's Vessels stationed on the Coast, will afford a salutary warning to the Pirates further north, & give additional security to the rapidly increasing trade with that part of the Chinese Empire.
