PARIS FASHIONS.

[FROM OUR SPECIAL COREPONDENT, IBANKL. BAKALY.]

PARIS, March 18th. Slowly but surely the waist in returning, although it, still lica low. The new spring collections have very faw dresses that are not drawn to the waist in some way. Not drawn in tight, but just eased to the figure, so that a belt or girdle is needed to finish it off successfully.

Yokes at the waist have been employed quite a lot, and hip yokes, too, have their place. Classical tailor-mades with straight backs and fronts will have just a slight- fulness low on the hips let into a narrow joke-belt. Where panels are pleated on the least bit full; these aro ganged on to a Beam or set into a yoke either all round or on one or both sides. The handkerchief point that was such a feature of last sen- son'e modela has not been carried on to say great extent this spring. It is more notice- able for the basques of coats than on skirts, and on capes than on long walk- ing coats or dresses.

Taffetas dresses are to be worn a good deal by young girls in the evening and for afternoon parties where dancing takes place. Shot colours are not quite so popular as they were in the winter, as stripes have taken their place. A cran"or pale grey back- ground in taffetas has stripes of pale blue, pink, and yellow across it. These striped materials are used the opposite way to previous years, and go round the figure instead of down, forming two or three flonnces in the skirt.

JI

Crêpe Marocain is as fashionable as ever it was, and is used for both day and evening were, it is such a useful material, as it trims itself, with a simple bemstitching round all edges and a few fancy liner in between A steel belt, or a jewelled one, is quite aufficient to make it look very Chic. Îbe dressmakern have made this great feature in spring models and paid all their attention, to line. A long skirt with drapery or pointed sides, a round bodice without a seam, and, wide wing sleeves that By out in the faintest breeze and show a bare arm beneath.

The bolero coat is

that is pleasing. It looks part of the dress at first. It fits to the waist at the buck, bas sleeves and a collar, but gets lost to view in front, or rather merges so neatly into the dress beneath that it becomes a part of it! In navy blue serge there are several examples of this | practical little cont that can be worn if it is chilly, or left at home it is hot, and allows the frock being perfectly correct whether it is there or not.

There are one or two amusing "quick change dresses in one or two collections, that always find favour with busy women. Onc, of Ene plain cloth, has a full and banched panel at the back of the skirt let into a yoke with a steel belt to complete it. By undoing the belt, the panel will lift right on to the shoulders and remain there, if fixed on by two books that each bold à link of the steel waist-belt.

Another neat arrangement for changing the aspect of a dress of crêpe satin is to have a pleated apron front. Attached to u belt, if comes off when you like and will look equally smart if arranged at the back, or even round one side. In fact, you can make of this dress half-a-dozen small changes that double the length and success of its life, and on the days when you wear it under a thick coat you just leave your pleats at home. Less new, perhaps, and yet worth repeat ing is the satin or silk chemise frock that, by the aid of a girdle, looks well just worn simply, but still blossom into a dinner (rock when shopping or travelling in a minute. In the folds of your handbag you curry to town a simple varnished silklace nic, Long and straight, Slipped over the lead and arranged on top of the satin chemise frock, you are dressed for a party at night.

The anth is less noticeable than it was a few months ago, but a few are still made to give a swathing effect. But for coata the aash has gone out, and only belts are used if the loose coat has to be drawn in at the waist.
