RUSSIAN MONEY FOR
BRITISH COMMUNISTS.
MR. THOMAS'S DISCLOSURES
Mr. J. H Thomas, M.P., addressing a
large railwaymen's demonstration at Shef- field on February 19th, spoke very plainly upon the methods being employed by Com- munists, declaring those methods a glover and asidious game deliberately in- tended to capture the trade union move ment for their own. purposes. He had been referring to his recent visit to Shef- feld, when he was howled down, and pro- eceded to denounce in vigorous language the thotics of the Communista, *"* Those of us who are privileged to be trusted with the responsibility of championing" the| workers' cause," he said, “know all too well the bitter sacrifices that were made to obtain the right of freedom of speech, and a curious commentary on the action of these people is the fact that, while they are the one section of the community who are always squirming about freedom of speech, they are the very people who deny that freedom to other peoplë.
"I want to submit to you that their policy and their methods are not only tonding, but are deliberately intended, to disrupt and break up the trade union and the Labour, movement of this yountry. (Cheers,) It is a clever and insidious game, deliberately intended to capture the trade union movement for their own pur Poses. These people are paid by Russian money. Not only can I prove that Rus sion money is behind it, that it has come into the courtry, and is being used, but I am going to say that, regardless of all the consequences, the British public shall have the details in public which I have had put before me in private.' (Cheers.)
**FOREIGN TO DEMOCRACY." Referring to the Labour victory in Man- chester, Mr. Thomas said it confirmed the belief he held that sooner or later the Labour movement would be called upon to govern the country. I believe that that will be a good thing, but I am equally satisfies that that time will be long delayed; in fact, I believe it will never take place so long. "as
