The steamer Sun On (Captain M. McArthur) bad an unpleasant expericace in the recent gale. She bad left Hong- kong for Swatow add encountered the full force of the gale. The Captain deemed it prudent to put back. Heavy sens were sweeping over the vessel, and in the strain the engines broke down. The situation was "perilous. Distress signals were made and were observed from the Waglan lighthouse, with the result that the Taikoo Dock's salvage tag Taikon went to the rescue and brought the Sun On safely into port,
