The former gentleman is the principal resident partner of the influential and wealthy firm of Jardine, Matheson & Co, and the latter is the representative of the equally respectable firm of Jamieson, Fraser & Co.; both of these gentlemen have been residents in China upwards of eight years respectively, are intelligent and highly respectable, and thoroughly acquainted with the wants
of the community.
The nomination by the Justices is in every respect satisfactory to myself,
and

of the Legislative Council of this Colony.
