A further decline in the general leve! of freights is recorded by the latest Chamber of Shipping Index Number of Shipping Freights, published by the Bain Sialist. The November index ia 29, which represents a fall of 3.4 per cent. October (Index 30) and 14.7 per cent, on Beptember (Index 34). As the geometri- cal average of the index for the year 1990 is taken at 100, it will be seen how severe bas been the fall in f freight rates during
the current year.
As regards the detailed changes of the -mouth, i te interesting to note that more
upward than occurred in the various routes included
downward
movements
in the index, and that it was the greater influence of
a few important routes
which caused the general index to fall balance. The heaviest declines wore
in the Eastern and Australasian trades,
