PRINCESS MARY'S
TROUSSEAU.
WORK THAT WILL BE DONE BY IRISH GIRLS.
Princess Mary has decided that a part of her! trousseau shall be made by the peasant girls of Ireland famous for their skill with the needle. The Royal Iriah Industries Association, which cm- ploys a large number of girls has received an order for handmade lingerie of the finest linen for Princess Mary's trous
вец.
The work will be given out to the girla and the linen sent from London to the. Association's centres in Ireland........
There are some districts which have a reputation for embroidery, and others for Ane stitchery." The most-skilled needle-women in these kinds of work will. make the articles for the Royal trousseau. But it is likely that the peasant girls, who do the sewing in their own homes, will not know the honour that has been paid to their skilful fingers.
Princess Mary has chosen patterns for three sets of lingerie. One is to be of fine stitchery resembling drawn thread work and trimmed with real lace. "An- other set will be embroidered with Irish point stitch, and a third encrusted with lace A set of georgette camisoles which she has chosen, will be trimmed with a deep band of Carrick-ma-Cross lace round the top, with shamrocks" on
the lace. All the garments will be beautifully simple 'and · dainty, the only touch of colour permitted being in some cases pale blue ribbon shoulder straps. All the lingerie has to be ready in six weeks' time.
It is probable that Princess Mary will also choose Irish tweel for her costumes' for country wear, and she may order some of the white hand-knitsed Trocké made by the fisher girls of Donegal.
