R. G. R. Evans, Mr. and Mrs. 0. H. It was not surprising that the Cathe Gale, His Honour Mr. Justice Gompertz dral was crowded. The bride's parents, and Mr. Gompertz, Hon. Mr. and Mrs. so well-known and respected, have assoJ. H. Kemp, Hon. Mr. Lax Chu Pak, ciated themselves wholeheartedly with Mrs. McNaghton, Mr. and Mrs. RamT the social and benevolent activities of Mrs. O, H. Mrs. Wyndham, and many other of her life in Hongkong, is popular with prominent residents of the Colony. old and young alike. The bridegroom, though not so well known to most of us, has made many friends since his arrival here in June, 1920, and we were interesteding is a list:- to learn that he served during the Wac in HMS. Marlborough, which torpedoed in the Battle of Jutland.

The wedding service was fully charál. Mr. Temple Bevan, at the organ, played "Salut 'Amour" (Elgar), "Gavotte in G (Handel), "Villanella" (John Ire land), and Mendelssohn's Wedding March." The hymans chosen by the bride and bridegroom were

ly Father, lead us and "Through "all the changing scenes of life." The cere mony was marked by a note of dignified" simplicity peculiarly pleasing and suit. able as a setting for the youthfulness of the bride. The Cathedral was decorated with graceful palms and quantities of roses; infleed, it was a veritable "Rose wedding. The Rev. Copley Moyle efficiated, assisted by the Rev. Croie Rees, B.N. Lieutenant H. F. Hurd-Wood was the best man." The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in a beautiful ivory satin gowa, the bridal veil being arranged with: sprays of orange blossom. She carried a simple bouquet of white roses, presented. by Mrs. Layton; and was attended by Miss Joyce Ham, wearing old rose taffeta, and by Master Lyn and Miss Pamela Dodwell & sweet little couple, in a paler shade of pink. All three carried, old- fashioned posies of pink rosebuds. The bride's mother, in grey and black char meuse and picture hat to match, curried

a bouquet of sweet peas. The happy

couple left the Cathedral beneath an arch of crossed swords formed by eighteen of the bridegroom's brother officers, and their motor car was drawn to the Tram | Station by the Bleo-jackets of HMS. Bluebell, the bridegroom's ship

A large gathering of friends attended the reception at "Taikoo." The bride and bridegroom received the congratula- tions of their friends under a large wedding-bell of flowers, designed and presented by Mrs. Taggart. The health of the bride and bridegroom was proposed by His Honour Mr. Justice Comparts in a happy little speech. He said they had mat together to pay an affectionate tribute to the only daughter of their old and tried friends, Mr. and Mrs. Edkins- anyone could consider a man an old friend with whom he had played, golf and travelled on the tram for twenty years. Mr. Edkins had long been pillar of British commerce in China, and the bride's mother, unsparing of her strength, had always been foremost in good works. (Applause.) Wo rejoice with them to-

and look upon their happiness with no shade of envy, but with sympathy. Themselves still young, in the very prime of life, they have honour, esteem and affection from troops of frienda. To-day they see their only daughter happily married to the man of her choice, who has before him an bonourable career in the service of the King-they are happy parents. As for the bride, I can tell you nothing about her that you do not already know. Her childhood, which is not long behind her, was spent among us. Look at the bride, radiant, blushing, charming-if I were a Frenchmany I should say adorable. (Cheers.) She has been worthily won, and Hongkong does not grudge this prize to the British Navy. She is leaving us, alas, all too soon, but she and her hus band will go from us with every good wish and with a prayer from us all that they may speedily retarn to their old home where they will find "nons "but friends." (Loud applause.)

The bridegroom, in acknowledgment, said he had had no idea that there were so many nice people in Hongkong, but if there was anything in the old term

to wangle'

g" he was cure that bo and his wife would be back again before long. He thanked the bridesmaids, big and wee," for helping them through this crisis" and asked the company to drisk their health.

The best man replied suitably for the bridesmaids, regrotting that all that had to be said had been already said, and con cluded On behalf of everybody bore thank Heaven I've inished.“ (Loud laughter and applause:)

Amongst the other floral decorations at the house some fine specimens of roses, From Mr. Nicholson, of the Cosmopolitan Dock, were conspicuous. An excellent programme of music for dancing was played by the Hongkong Hotel Band, during which the bride and bridegroom," amidst a shower of rose petals, left for Mr. Edkins' bungalow at Repulse Bay, where the honeymoon in being spent. The bride wore a cream gabardine coat | frock with dark brown fur trimming, a. sapphire blue panne velvet cloak, and a mastic beaver hat trimmed with brown ostrich feathers.

Taikoo

It a matter of extremo regret to many lovers of music in the Colony and to other friends who have so often.onjoyed the hospitality of the bride's parents at that the bride will be leaving. Hongkong 50 Boon, for she has been ever ready to use her musical talent for the delight of others, and all will join in wishing her and her husband succes and happiness in the future.

Many beautiful and well-chosen pre sents were received, of which the follow-
