TIDAL WAVE IN THE PHILIPPINES.

OVER 100, LIVES LOST. More than 100 persons lost their lives in the Municipalities of Ibajay and Macabo, province of Capiz, recently, when a tidal wave inundated the former city which is on the coast, and the resultant Blood spread to Macato, five kilometers inland, according to a telegraphic dis patch. received at constabulary head- quarters, from the provincial Commander of Capiz.

The tidal wave, accompanied by tor rents of rain," was the result of a storm which passed over Capiz, whose effect was felt to a certain extent in Manila. No details of the disaster had reached Manila when the last mail left. It is expected that enormous damage to property and crops will be reported as soon as the food has subsided enough to permit an inventory of the havoc wrought.

The telegram telling of the disaster ready: Floods and storm waves in Macnto and Ibajay November 26th. Over 100 persons perished. Details still incom- ploto."

The Municipality of Ibajay, says the danila Times, is one of the biggest towns in the province of Capiz, having population of 20,000, while the town of Macato has a population of 8,000.

FOREIGN SHOOTING PARTY'S

ADVENTURES. ARRESTED BY SOLDIERS NEAR HANKOW.

A recent Hankow paper says:- We learn that a party of five foreigners, early on Wednesday morning set out on & shooting expedition to the region be hind the Hanyang Arsenal, met with a day's sport consisting of adventures of quite a different description than they had anticipated.

After having sighted a number of ducks, the first shots fred by the party attracted the attention of the Chiness. military in the neighbourhood; and be Tore the foreigners realised what was. happening they were surrounded by a Bquad of some two-hundred grey-clad soldiers and were peremptorily seized and marched off under arrest. Their shot guns were taken from them, as were also their provisions solid and liquid-which they were carrying with them for their picnic tiffin. Not only this but their pockets were gone through and all cart ridges and other small articles found on them were confiscated.

Mr. Wood: I am woll aware that public interest has been aroused in Hong- kong on the subject of mui-trai. I under- stand that at a public meeting of Chinese held on the 30th of July a resolution wo passed for the formation of a society for the protection of mui-tio and that on the 8th of August a meeting of about 30 residents was held, at which it was proposed to form society for the sup- pression of the mui-tani custom. As to the action of the Government, I would refer to the reply given on the 24th of October to my hon. friend the Member for St. Rollox
