was observed, to which we gave

and found her to be the same which had:

broadsides at us, and then ran on shore. I then boarded her in the cutter. We had

scarcely gained a footing on board the

junk, when the cutter swamped

in

the

surf. The life-boat from the Canton then sent to our assistance, with hawsers to heave the junk off, which they failed

doing, owing to the heavy surf. At sunset,
