in the above case. As they closed upon them to seize them, however, they had the audacity to defend themselves against their captors, by firing upon them; the soldiers and police fired, in their turn, and struck Li à pân; who fell into the water and was drowned.
Search was made for his body, but it was not recovered. Kwöh on board was cut down by the swords of the soldiers and police, who carried him prisoner to the City.
When he was brought up for examination, he was found to be wounded; orders were given for his surgical treatment. By the perusal of a copy of his statement, you will be informed of all particulars.
