Elliot issued a notice that allotments of land would be made, pending further pleasure.
In the 18th October following, a notice for a second sale of land was published, the regulations for which were to be the same as at the first sales. The sale took place on the 14 December, 1841, when lot No. 16 was taken by Mr. F. W. Zabell, who on the 26th April, 1842, transferred it to Mr. R. M. Martin (likely "Wichele" is a misreading, possibly should be checked, but as per rule 1, it is preserved as is), who again on 8 October, 1842, transferred it to Mr. R. Edwards.
On the 18th April 1843, Sir Henry Pottinger, in consequence of instructions received from Her Majesty's Government, published a notice calling upon all holders of land to furnish him with full explanations of their claims to such land, concluding in the following words.
It has been repeatedly intimated that the terms and tenure of holding all lands on the Island of Hongkong were to depend solely on the pleasure and commands of Her Majesty's Government; and the information called for in this notification is required before such terms and tenure can be announced to the Public.
And again on the 21st August, 1843, His Excellency notified that Her Majesty's Government do not acquiesce the validity of any grants or sales of land that have been made, or may have taken place under any authority whatsoever previous to the exchange of the ratifications of the treaty, upon which event the Island of Hongkong became a bona fide possession of the British Crown.
