REVENUE OFFICERS
DISCOVERY.
TH. HONGKONG DAILY PRESS,
OPIUM IN A HARBOUR BUOY.
HAUL WORTH $4,730.
Supt.
Revenue officers have to put in ovor Multime thinking of possible places for the concealment of opium. It would appear that anything hallow and dry may be hiding place for oplum no matter how unlinely the position may be. Who would would imagine that a harbour buoy would conceal opium! Yet, this week. that has been found to be the ense Taylor. C. P. O. Watt and a party of Chinese revenue officers visited a buoy in the harbour near Causeway Bay. They had some difficulty in unbolting the cover of the buoy; the weight of the maa operating caused the buoy to turn aver and several of the reventie officers hnd a ducking.
Whereas some people have asked tions in the House of Commous in don and incited all classes to induence the Secretury of State for the Colonies to instruct the Hongkong tiovernment to Lake steps concerning our old practice of keeping servant-girls, we, therefore, invite aur fellow-Chinese residents in Hongkong to attend a meeting to be held on Satur day, the 30th instant at 2.30 pm, at the Tai Ping Theatre, to discuss the follow ing inatters and pass such resolutions as the majority of those present may decide, so that the longkong Government will be fully acquainted with our views. As the question affects seriously our Chinese custom, we shall be glad, if interest be taken extensively at the meeting at the appointed time.
Matters for discussioni:→

It is a nice legal point whether the shipping company which is said to own the buoy is liable for having illicit opium in its, possession. Is a buoy, part of its premises or, as it flonts, would the law regard it as a vessel!
·REGULATION
OF
THE
HARBOUR.
In the event of the above-mentioned matters being found to be facts, we should request the Hongkong Government to pass a law to abolish the system alto- gether.
