FRENCH SHIPS TO THE EAST.

THE STATUS OF THE MESSAGERLES WARTIMES,

The agents of the Messageries, Mari- turies in Colombo have given an ampli- fication of the "information contained in Reuter Paris eable dated April 15th, that "a report on the Bill concerning. ateumer services to the Far East, Aus- tralia, East Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean, which has been tabled in the Chamber, specifies that the Messageries Maritimus shall cease to be Stato-sub- sidised and a new company, based on the Regie system, be formed with a capital of 60,000,000 francs.. The measure will entail alteratious of the mail routes."

The Company," states the Ceylon re presentative, will not cease to er joy the State subvention and the personal, agen- cies and offices of the Company will re main the same.
