BILLIARDS CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE COLONY.
YOUNG PLAYER DEFEATS THE
"HOLDER.
The billiards championship of the Colony was contested as the Victoria Becreation Club, on Saturday evening, when A. J. Omund defeated the holder, F. Yvanovitch, by a handsome margin. The game was for 1,000 up, play began at 6 p.m., and lasted, with intervals for rest, till 11.16 p.m.
Yvanovitch led for the greater part of the first session but after nearly two hours' play, Osmund got dead-and-at the end of the first session he had a lead of a hundred odd, the scores being: Osmund, 098; Yvanovitch, 585.
During the greate: part of the first session both players were off their stroke and missed cusy shots. Ormund, who is quite a young player to have reached a championship final, was somewhat nervous and lacked steadiness.
The session which began at nine o'clock saw much more interesting play. Both competitors had found their stride, Osmund twice in succession performed the feat of getting in off the red, from spot, and he got a six shot when both balls were in paulk. At nine p.m., the scores. were Ounund 757; Yvanovitch 840. to to o'clock (after which time the quality of the play fell off considerably and there were no more big breaks) the competitors to their had the following breaks credit:-
