that it would be well to come as soon as possible to a decision as to the length of time he may see fit to keep the "Amazon" at Macao. There are at present in the Macao Roads two American and one French Vessel of War, which are quite enough for the security of the place should their assistance be required; whilst if they were to withdraw before him, he might be embarrassed by the difficulty of leaving the spot.
