EXCLUDED IN MURDER TRIAL.
Women jurors sat on three juries at tha Old Bailey on the same day, a recently. In each case two women occupied the jaw- box with men. In the principal courte that of Mr. Justice Shearman-the jury consisted of mea only. case in which a servant girl was charg od with the murder of her, newly-born child. She pleaded guilty to concealing the birth of the baby and not guilty to the murder, and her ples was accepted. Mr. Justice Shearman, apparently thinking of a lady who asked to be ex cused the previous day because of nervousness, told the jury that their duty would be quite formal."You will hear no evidence,' said his lordship," but merely return a verdict as directed, and I think your nerves will be" equal to that."
A verdict in accordance with the prisoner's plea was returned, and 'the judge intimated that she would be re- leased later in the day.
In the Common Serjeant's Court the first case taken was one of bigamy, and the judge directed the "ladies and gentlemen of the jury" to return a verdict of Not guilty," na there was no evidence that the prisoner knew his first wife was alive for ten years before the second marriage.
In a coining case which followed, the judge said the jury might like to see some of the little but dangerous toys" found the prisoner's possession, and some moulds were passed to them. The two women members of the jury examined the articles with great interest
In the Recorder's Court several cases of bigamy came before the jary, and the evidence, was followed closely by the women jurors.
Counsel objected to two women jurors at the Old Bailey in a case of higamy, and they were accordingly replaced by men, the case ending in the acquittal of the accused.
At the Berks Assizes two women Were summoned as jurors, whom "Mr. Justice Darling relieved from duty. One was aged 63, and another was a char woman with two children dependent upon ber.

WOMAN'S WIT WINS. DETECTIVE SPENDS A NIGHT IN A PADDED ROOM
A clever swindle was recently carried out by a woman who obtained 21,400 worth of furs for £140 from a Fifth avenue store...
The women drove up to the store in a limousine, selected £1,400 worth of furs, and made a deposit of £140. She left with the furs, but a detective attached to the firm accompanied her in the car to collect the balance of the money at her home in Flushing, a New York suburb.
Instead of taking him home, however, the car drove to a sanatorium for inebri ates, which is a large and imposing build. ing resembling a private residence. The detective remained in the car while the woman' entered the building. She called the superintendent, and told him that her husband was in the car suffering from the dehusion that he was a detective, and not her husband.
The kiperintendent, with two attend ants, went out to persuade the detective to enter the building for treatment and odre, and all his efforts to explam were in vain. He was removed by force, and confined in a padded call, where, he re mained until midnight. The woman has to far not been heard of.
