One can about eighty were inmgine the difficulty incurred by the catering department on such occasions, especially when one remembers that all. the food has to come from Hongkong. Anyhow the Committee intend to take drastic measures, by either charging double for tiffins not ordered beforehand, or refusing to serve one at all.

In spite of the fact that I have repro duced the amended Rules, adopted by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, on two separate occasions, during the last three months, I see no notice in the Club house to the effect that the Club have adopted them. They were "adopted at home last September.

In outlining the case, the Attorney- General said that at about a quarter past six on the morning of January 3rd a man employed by the Gas Company on going round and extinguishing the gas lamps in the streets found a certain lamp near the gate of Government House on Upper Albert Road already extinguished. The rule forbidding three and four ball matches, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, to start after 2 p.m., unless all singles "have driven off, is more ornamental than useful. If half a dozen four balls start cff between 1.20 p.m. and 2. p.m., there is not much pleasure in starting a single just behind them. There are a number of players who go out on Wednesdays Davics+ 1/8, and Saturdays, who have to catch the 5.10 p.m. train back, and all their plea-2/6. +4/0. sure is lost by being worried about being held up. It would be very much better if three and four ball matches were not allowed at all, on the old course, on these. afternoons--that is, stop them after 12 mid-day.

The complainant told the Magistrate (Mr. R. E. Lindsell) that on Wednesday she was being taken in a chair up Glenealy, near the new Garden gate, when she saw the defendant peoping at her as she approached. He advanced towards her, behaving indecently and making in- decent remarks to her in Chinese. She understood Chinese She was much upset and frightened; but knowing that the neighbourhood was more or less deserted account of the race meeting, she thought it best "to take no notice and On Saturday, while walking with her sister and a girl friend, near the same spot she again saw the man. She was determined to give him in charge, He seemed so they all followed him. frightened and hurried away. On seeing a Chinese constable at the bottom of Old Bailey be enlisted his aid and the man was arrested on the stairs of his house.

The defendant denied that he was in the neighbourhood on Wednesday and declared that it was a case of mistaken identity.

Complainant said she was confident he was the same man. In her statement at the police station she had acntioned that she had been similary annoyed by the same man before, so she was sure of her identification.

The defendant said he only recently arrived from Canton at search of work. He called a friend, who was also in of work, and who gave him a good character

The Magistrate then imposed a fine of
