I may have asked for the Sum of £. 20,000 being granted for 1850-51; for, were this granted, I should not have to sanction any outlay that I may have to make from my saving of the present year, and I could prove an entire absence of ... foresight, which under the circumstances of this Colony I regret to feel I have been wanting in. I should regret being caused by my want of foresight.

5. The following Memorandum may serve to inform Your Lordship of my financial position with reference to this point.

The Estimate of the House and out-offices is £. 1019 6.1 to pay for the articles above alluded to. I shall have in February next, I think, to commence with from the funds of the year 1850. If a Parliamentary grant of £. 20,000 for 1850-51 is granted, there will be available £. 20,000, which will leave to be provided for:

"4,500. 0. 0 "6,000. 0. 0 "2,625. 1. 6 £14,940. 7. 6

At present the Colony is paying Rent for a Government House to the tune of £625.
