All about one o'clock in the afternoon Sundartied in the Fevermouth Boat and went on board the American Corvette "Tunnieric" "Wymouth". This was witnessed by the Commander of the Naval Forces, Cuptain Stoppel, who was on that occasion at a window of Mr Stewart's house with Mr Mas, Minister for Spain in China.
During his absence, several armed parties landed from boats belonging to the British Men of War, entered the Square adjoining the house of the above-mentioned Mr Stewart, forced open doors, ran through the Senate Square, and without provocation fired a discharge of Musketry upon the guard at the Senate House, killed one Private, and wounded a Serjeant and five Privates:- thence they came to the Jail, fired upon the Guard, and forcibly carried away Mr Slunners, who, according to the Jailor's Report, had already warned, and assisted in breaking open the Jail.
This act does not require comment: the Governor of Macao was not on shore when the Naval Forces of Her Britannic Majesty, under the command of Captain Henry Kösafel, came and killed one Soldier, and wounded three. They violated the instructions; employed force before having recourse to do so.
