charged with, our convicted of, Porncy with violence, at the
Admiralty Sessions held on the 26th May last, and in Jail under sentence of Seath.
It appeared that information being obtained through Mr Caldwell, the Assistant Superintendent of Police, that several Piratical Boats were at anchor in the waters adjacent to Hongkong, Her Majesty's Steamer Inflexible under the Command of Captain Hoseason, dispatched in search of them on the 29th April last, with Mr Caldwell on board. That on the steamer approaching the Great Samoa, one Beat was seen at anchor at that place; that they fired several shots upon the steamer, which fire was returned; that the Steamer coming near them those in the Boats jumped overboard, and swam ashore. that they were chased by the steamer's Boats, and that the above Criminals were taken with others then taken prisoners.
It appeared from the evidence on the table that the aforesaid Criminals formed part of the crew...
