been labouring for some months past under the feelings of suspense and doubt which naturally result from
the uncertainty of my present position. This has been the occasion of my turning
attention to other pursuits, I beg most respectfully to Request, that
my availing myself of a most promising opportunity of bettering my fortunes, in heading an expedition to California, may not prejudice the claim for compensation for loss of office, which His Excellency has already been pleased to recommend to the
favorable consideration of the
Home Government ; I particularly
allude to a
grant of Land in New Zealand ; besides permitting
that
contributions to the
Superannuation Fund be
Refunded to
me
In
Government
resigning office under
I feel myself
bound
in gratitude to Return sincere thanks both to His
Excellency and
yourself for
the kind interest that has been taken in
my affairs
and for
the very flattering opinion which His Excellency has been pleased to entertain of the value of my
Services.
