An interesting story was related at the Magistracy, yesterday, when a Chin se woman and her son were charged with harbouring an unmarried girl withou; the consent of her parents,

It was stated that the parents of the girl arranged a marriage between her and another man, a wealthy merchant.

week before the wedding took place the girt disappeared from her home and enquiries resulted in the discovery that the girl had gone to defendants Loose and had lived with the man, whom she loved. This man was peor and the par- ents objected to the match, henes the charge.
Inspector Davitt stated that a report was made to the Police station that the giri was missing. The father informed- The Police that he suspected the defend- ante, and so they were arrested

Mr. A. E..... Hall, for the husband, in- formed the Magistrate that his client was willing to pay the woman 88 a month, and also pay for the education and thè cloth- ing of the girl, The woman could live quite comfortably on that sum in the country, but she insisted on remaining in Hongkong
