PRINCE ALBERT“

FREEMASON.

INITIATION AT NAXY» LODGES

Prince Albert has joined the ranks of Freemasonry, being admitted to the Order. on December and at Princes Galleries, Piccadilly, in the presence of the Prince of Wales, sererat Grand Lodge officers, and a distinguished company of Free- mpions. The Prince of Wales, as a Guardaman, selected the Household Brigada Lodge, Prince Albert, a naval officer, has joined the Navy Lodge No. 2,512, of which King Edward, when Prince of Wales, was Worshipful Mastor from its foundation in 1896 sill his acces sion to the Throne in 1901. Major Lenis Greg Equerry to Prince Albert, as initiated at the same time, and the meet ing for the dual ceremony was an emer- gency one.

It was originally hoped that the Most Worshipful Grand Master, the Duke of Connaught, would presido at the initia tion ceremony, but as that was found im practicable, the duty devolved upon the Pro-Grand Master, Lord Ampthill, and Vice Admiral JB.Eustace. R.N., the Worshipfal Master of the Lodge.

Prince Albert was presented as "Lien- tenant HR. H. Prince Albert Frederick Arthur George KG., BN. (Flight Lientonant, RAF.)," and his Equerry de *Surgeon Lieutenant-Commander, Louis Greig, M.V.O.. R.N. (Wing-Commander, KAF)," a

There was an imposing procession of Grand Officers into the Lodge, and on the entrance of the Prince of Wales the brethren were called to order to receive him very effective observanco. Each of the candidates attended in ndval uniform. The Master of the Lodge com- menced the business of the evening, and then gave place to Lord Ampthill, Pro- Grand Master, who performed the first part of the initiation ceremony

After the ceremony a banquet was held Vice Admiral J. B. Eustace the Worship- ful Master, presiding. In addition to the Prince of Wales, Prince Albert, Major Greig, and those who took part in the initiation ceremony; there was a large company of brethren present.

Lord Ampthill, proposing the toast of the Initiates, mentioned the association of the Royal Family with the Craft and said that Freemasons would rejoice in the renewal of that association in the persons of the Prince of Wales and Prince Albert.

Prince Albert in his reply, said:-I wish to thank you sincerely for the kind way in which you have drunk my health, and I can assure you how much I

appre ciate the cordial welcome you have giren me on my initiation into Freemasonry. I have always wished to become a Free- manson,, but owing to the was I have had no opportunity before this of joining the `Craft. All my life I have heard of Free- masonry," and though there his always been a certain mystery attached to it. I have learned that Freemasons in this country have been a great help to the poor and friendless, and have been not- able for their efforts on behalf of child -re. "One can so by the great Masonic Tastitutions and schools how successful their work has been in this cause, and I like to think that in the future I shall be associated in their great work: (Cheers.)
