"The Actoria, Hongkong, 11th May, 1849

I have the honor to report to Your Lordship that on the 27th March last, I granted leave of absence to Mr. Lena the Assistant Harbour Master, to proceed to the Straits Settlements for the benefit of his health which has been very much impaired, as attested by the Colonial Surgeon's Certificate, herewith enclosed.

Mr. Lena returned to the Colony on the 17th April, but as he only exceeded the period allowed by the Colonial Regulations by six days, and his absence arose from ill health & the Government having been put to no expense thereby,
