SATURDAY & CHARITT MATCH.
HONGKONG F.C. DEFEAT THE
CHINESE
It was an off day with the South China Athletic on Saturday, when they were opposed to a scratch team supposed to represent the Hongkong F.C., in "charity" match, in which the funds ware being deveted to the widow of the murdered Warder Speed. The Club team included Clark of the Polica at back, Toms and Neal of the Navy at centre forward and inside right, and Evelyn, another "stranger "at inside left. Not able absentees were Stewart, who hai injured his leg, Railton, Reichelmann and McTavish. The team choten was, how ever, quite strong enough to beat the Chinese, whose display was thoroughly disappointing. Their chief weakness was in the forward line, whore they played their last season's, centre forward. This man, evidently out of practice, gare a miserable "exhibition and spoilt all the efforts of the rest of his front line, and generally disorganised his team by his weak play. The other forwards, seeing the futility of passing to him, tried in dividual experiments, and were not able to pierce the defence of Tonkin and Clark The Chinese were handicapped, also, by the absence of their usual crack goal-keeper. One fancies that Lau Hing Cheong would have saved at least two of the shots that went into the net on Saturday,

The Chinese continued to dominate the gaze, but could not get past the Club defence, Tonkin especially playing a noteworthy game During the last few minutes of the game, each side attacked alternately. Evelyn spoilt more than one promising movement by getting offside The Chinese forwards did not seem to be able to do anything right Some stages of the play were very exciting Neither goal was pierced and the game ended in a win for the Club by four goals to nik
