Proportions of a vessel recommended for the service
of Hong Kong, &c.
Length from 70 to 75 feet, and about 80 Tons
burthen, with as light draught of
water as possible ; - to be constructed on the most approved principle.
Mode of propulsion - screw.
Nominal power of engines, 20 horses, on the
high pressure principle, and fitted to
work expansively. Boiler warranted to work to 100 lbs pressure
per square inch.
General working pressure from 45 to 50 lbs
the inch. To be fitted with means to ship and unship :-
the screw
The vessel to stow 15 tons of coals, to be
rigged as a fore and aft schooner, (with
large sails), to be fitted with a
18-pounder gun
on a
long
pivot, in the most convenient place for working it, and two brass 6-pounders.
