ALAGNIFICENT INNINGS BY A. A.

CLAXTON...

The Hongkong C.C.deserve to be con- gratulated on their magnificent recovery and subsequent victory against the Garrison. The result was a good illustra tion of the glorioua uncertainty of cricket. Following on this splendid win, it may be safety, assured that the Club will defeat the Navy in the New Year match.

On the previous day, the Garrison, bat ting first, knocked up 239 in, thanks mainly to a forceful' display of cricket by Lient Sutherland and to the scientifia and polished play of Capt. Davies and Major Edwards. Against that total, the Club replied with 168 A A. Claxton being the chief contributor with aplendidly compiled innings of 57 runa. Following on, the Club had scored 18 for the Ides of Mitchell's wicket when stumps were drawn..

When play was continued on Satur day, opinion varied as to whether Claxton and Wood, who seemed to be set when play ceased on the previous evening, would collar the Garrison bowling. The
