Registrar General. The expenditure includes £91. 13.4 arrears; being the Registrar General's half salary to 31 March, 1848; the actual expenditure for 1848-49 is £871. 2.4 stg., being a swing of £70.7.0 from the estimated. Contingencies £32.

Harbour Master. Decrease of £33. 12.5, owing to reductions made in the provisional establishment from 1 January, 1849.

8. Post Office. Paid by the Post Master General, London.

9. Collectors of Police Rate. Increase of expenditure over Estimate is £60. 1. 2 stg., of which £18. 9. 1 stg. is commission paid to the assessors and collectors, the tax having thus much increased, and £41. 12. 1 stg. being the increased contingencies, chiefly for printing forms and publishing the Returns of Collections for two years.

10. Judicial. Less expended by £199. 7. 3 than estimated; of which £60. 4. 3 under administration of Justice, exclusive of Establishment, Witnesses, &c. Under the above are also included £263. 3. 0 arrears of half salary of the Attorney General, and the expense of the Judicial Department for 1848-49 would, with one month's salary of the Chief Justice for April, actually be £6,914. 19. 9, making a nett saving of £212. 10. 3 stg.

11. Education. Not known when the estimate was prepared.

12. Medical. £324. 17. 7 increase over Estimate, being £54. 11. 4 on the Colonial Surgeon's salary at £100 per annum, and the Establishment of a Civil Hospital, which partly caused the decrease under Police and Jails.

13. Police and Jails. £834. 3. 5 stg. is the less expenditure, viz. £853. 17. 6 under Police and Jails, £350 under Transport of Convicts, £27. 9. 2 under Hospital, making £1,231. 7. 3, whereas an over expenditure of £397. 3. 10½ on the following items must be deducted, viz. £205 Gratuities, £92. 10 Charitable allowances, £19. 7. 4 Rents, £218. 7. 7 special expenses, and £58. 6. 11½ stg. under Establishment.
