The Chiness in Java have not been their prosecution of the anti-Japanese boycott, and their hostility is visited chiefly on Chinese, who persist in dealing, in Japanese goods. According to Japanese merchant who has just arrived home by the NY.K. steamer Kawachi. Maru, zentiment is running very high in Java against Japan and the Japanese. Anti-Japanese feeling is carried on to much an extent that the residences of Chinese merchants dealing in Japanese goods are set on fire without compune- tion, and merchants, have actually been. burnt to death. Two principal Chinese merchants, who managed to attract the hostile attention of these anti-Japanese people, are being searched for, eighty thousand dollars and seventy thousand dollars respectively being set upon their beads. Needless to say the Japanese merchants are laring very badly in these circumstances, and many of them are on but the verge of bankruptcy. This anti- Japanese feeling is gradually spreading to Celebes and Borneo.
