If we are to abolish poverty and raise the national standard of life for our workers we shall want more food, mere houses, more clothes, more household furniture and utensils, and more wealth of every kind. Take the question of cual Coal is the WHY ARE WE THE MOST Principal source of England's wealth.
year we use in this country 80,000,000 tons of coal for motive power. Man for man, we use in industry hali as much coal again as they do in America, but we do it so wastefully, ao badly, thất one ton of coal used to assist the worker in the United States gives him 30 per cent. more help, 50 per cent. more motive power, than one-and-a-half tous used to assist the British worker.
The Coal Conservation Commission, appointed by the Ministry of Reconstruc tion, during the war, reported that par present consumption of coal for indus trial purposes might be made to give at least three times the amount of power. That is one way of increasing production. Treble. your motive power. More power means more output, and more output means higher wages.
