Captain Bance sworn. I am Superintendent of Police at Hongtong; I was in the same Regiment with the prisoner H.M's 16th; He volunteered from the 20th Regiment in 1838 (I think it was in 1838) I knew him until 1840, when he volunteered for the 55th Regiment; I was Adjutant of the 16th. I had frequent opportunities of judging of prisoner's character. I never observed in him anything peculiar; on the morning when prisoner was committed on the charge of which he at present stands accused

Captain Dunbar sworn. He handed to me a bill on Macao in favour of the prisoner, but drawn in favour of the Officer in command of the 55th for the time being in order to realize this money.
