For the third year in succession, the an- rinal switaming sports of the Hongkong Defence Corps Cadet Company were held,
Saturday afternoon, at the Victoria Recreation Club. There was a fair at- tendance of spectatory including H.E the Governor, who was accompanied by Capt. "Melirath, A Dig, “and E'nptain Warner, S., and the Hon Mr. Claud Severn. C.M.G, Major Armstrong aud Capt. Stewart. All the necessary ar rangements wegy carried out in an ad. mirable manner under the direction of .. Lieut. A. Brawn, Commandant Tea was served during an intervni.
Ibe programme comprised älten events, and they were all well led, the competitors showing a keen sense of friendly rivalry.
The 223 yards championship went to D. Lyon, who recently did very well in the V.RC. Sports, while & Jack, another swimmer of promise, was a close second The time recorded was ruin. 52 1-5 Jack won the high dive amidst applauses The senior long plunge was an easy victory for R. Dusena, "whose distance was 60 feet.. D. Ogilvie, one of the juniors, put up an excellent contest, with G Hedley in the 50 yards cham- pionship and won by the narrow margin of a fifth of a second. In diving for plates, G. Jack at the end of two minute appeared with thirteen plates. Cropley and Pile secured twelve each, and were given three further opportunities of adding to the number but failed, prob- ably because there were no more plates in the bath Twenty cadets entered for the clothes race, in which they bad to dis card belt, cap, and boots at the word go," and "swim cne-length in coat and shorts.
Y. Hast won. the event almost before anyone Was Aware of it. The 100 yards champion- ship resolved itself into a struggle be tween D. Lyon and G. Jack, who left the other competitors far behind.. Lyon-com- pleted the course in the good time of 61 1-5secs. There was quite a scramble for the ladies" nomination race, each of the competitors in which had to search for a floating piece of wood bearing the name of the lady who nominated him. The Team Race was the most closely contest- ed event of the afternoon. Four teams entered, and there was a dead boat be- tween Srétion One and Section Threes

As the result of a second trial, Section One beat Section Three by the fraction of a second, amidst wild enthusinam va the part of its supporters. Section Thres was awarded the championship shield fur the highest number of points.
At the conclusion of the sports, the prizes were distributed by E. the Governor, who returned the salute of each boy who came to receive big nward. Lieut. A, O. Brawn, the Commandant, said:--On behalf of the Cadet Company I have great pleasure in, welcoming His Excellency here today, and before 1 call upon him to distribet" the prizes I will; take this oppurtunity of thanking all those who have worked so hard today in helping me to run these sports, und alsu all, thuse who have so generously contri- buted prizes. Their generosity is mani- fested on this table. I would like alo to thank Mr. Severn for the very great interest he has taken in the Chiēts" dur- ing the past weazon; be seeing to be more in touch with, them than is the Otheër Commanding, and I know they appre ciate it very muen. (Applause.)
His Excellency said:-Commandant, Cadets, ladies and gentlemen, I do not know whether you expect me to make af speech to you this evening, but I am sure you will not be disappointed if I refrain from doing so as the hour is late. I am only going to say buw very pleased I am at baring had the chance of coming here to day to see such, excellent racing and sports, and I am, only sorry that a previous engagement prevented ing from arriving earlier. The officers of the Corpsi are to be congratulated" on the excellent tärn-out of their: boys, and I am sure everybody must have thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon's excellent sports. I am much obliged to you all for inviting me to "como here. (Applause.)
