Consus and Registration Office, Victoria Hongkong, 28th March 1869.

I have the honor to enclose a letter to address which has been placed in my hands. Mr. Stevenson in which I am sorry to see that he is at length compelled to leave this Colony in order to recruit a constitution impaired by continual ill health.

I cannot bear too strong testimony to the efficient manner in which he has always seconded me in the discharge of the duties of this Department and regret the necessity which deprives us of the benefit of his valuable services.

I have to authorize you to return to Mr. Stevenson such contributions as have been made to this department by cheque, as the Law does not warrant the retention of such contributions.

(Signed) W. L. Engles,

Registrar General.

To

The Honorable Major Faine,

Colonial Secretary,

etc. etc. etc.

(True Copy)

Colonial Secretary.
