Pretoria, Hongkong, 26th March, 1849.
I have the honor to report that in compliance with Your Lordship's instruction conveyed in Despatch N° 78 of the 6th December 1848, the duty of 2 1/2 per cent levied in this Colony on goods sold by public auction, was abolished from the 16th instant; and further, that with the concurrence of the Executive Council I decided on increasing the Fee on Auction Licenses to 150 Dollars per annum each.
The persons who have been licensed to exercise the calling of Auctioneers for one year from the above date, are 8 in number.
