If that sum be deducted from the above amount the nett value of all work performed will amount to £329.17.287– being £. 26. 1.5 more than last year.
Upon the Roads in the Hongweichung Valley, 200 Miles, the sum of L. 28. 13. 14th has been expended in repairs, being less than 3d per yard.
Road to Saiwan, - Read Wonqueichung 5 miles, - During the early portion of the year, (until May), the Road was maintained in tolerable order for the sum of £13.15, Reg: 39 of 1847 and 5 of 1848; the wooden Bridges repairs, Reg: 31 and 38 of 1847 cost £33.19.5, so that the total expenditure amounted to £. 47. 14.3, or nearly £B for the half year. During the latter portion of the year, both Roads and Bridges sustained much damage from heavy gales and typhoons.
