The Secretary returns by which your Lordship will observe the amount of business done in the Supreme Court from the 14th June to the end of December last, as well as the amount received by the Supreme Court during the year.
The first of these documents will show that during six months, from the 1st of June to the end of December, 48 Common Law Actions were commenced; that the amount of damages claimed was $107,970; that not one of them has been brought to trial, and that 27 have been compromised in some way.
Document No. 43 will show that during these six months, the fees amounted to £403.19.1. It follows, therefore, that as far as the Court is concerned, 48 causes (of which 27 have been finally settled), involving an amount of $107,970, have been carried into court at an expense of £403.19.1, being at the rate of $1.2, or rather more than 15 per cent, on the whole of the cases instituted in the Court on the Common Law side.
I have the honor to be,
With the highest respect,
Your Lordship's
Most obedient
Humble Servant,
