DODGE BROTHERS

MOTOR CAR

A statement of Dodge Brothers war activities is due the owners of their enrs.

Dodge Brothers refrained, during the progress of the war, from any reference to the performance of the car in Goverument service.

It seems proper now, however, to disclose the facts, because they are creditable facts-intensifying that good will which owners of Dodge Brothers ears have always mani- fested.

DER

Dodge Brothers car was the only of its class approved and adopted by the War Department.

In a separatą Ordinance Works, built especially for the purpose, costing millions of dollars and employing thousands of their skilled motor workmen, Dodge Brothers undertook an important duty designated by the War Department.

Without the aid of their great motor organization, Dodge Brothers could not have fulfilled the heavy obligation which they were asked to assume by the Onin- ance Department.

14

The other service required of Lodge Brothers motor works, by the Government, was to continue to

Furnish their cars as they wore needed.

They were furnished, not in buz- dreds, but in thousands-both for the training comps here, and for service in Belgium, France and Italy.

The record of those thousands of camp and army cars is one in which any

owner may feel the utmost pride and satisfaction.

Their performance justified the compliment implied in their selec- tion by the Government.

The great works in which nearly three bundred thousand of their cars have been produced in the past four years furnished a vast store- house of human energy and equip- ment for the ordnance work.

Naturally, it will take time to adjust the motor works to its full accustomed activity.

Gradually Dodge Brothers will resume the grateful task of con- tinuing to deserve the good will of America and indeed of the whole world.

Dodge Brothers consider goodwill their most valuable possession.

They will never knowingly do anything to lessen it.

LORD READING'S SPEECH.

In opening an exhibition of French off- cial war photographis, at the Goupil Galleries, Begent-street, rocently, the Earl of Reading, who was accompanied by the Countess, uttered a warning note; to watch Germany in pesce Rs in war.

Lord Randing testified to the valuable work which had been done by the Anglo- French Socioly, and he esteemed even more the opportunity-another oppor tunity-of expressing intense admiration for the French nation. (Chears.) The Anglo-French Bociety existed for a pur pose which commended itself to all. When we read the claims from Herr von Solf, his appeals that the terms of the armistice

were impossible, or almost impossible, to be carried out, let us remember that those terms of armistice were gentler and more merciful than would have been the con- tinuaner of the war, with its inevitable result, the defeat of Germany.

Let us continue to be watchful and wary in peace as in war, we must remem.. ber what had happened, and must take to heart the lessons of the past. We did. not require revenge, France had not. asked for revenge. Noble words had been spoken by the great Ben of France. What we were determined to have, in France und in England, and in nations. associated with us in this great cause, was justicestern justice-meted out to those responsible for the awful horrors of the war. These who had not, bad the opportunity of seeing some of the scenes of devastation were enabled to gain some idea by visit to that exhibition. He asked how long the war was expected to last, and the answer was a fine relevant irrelevancy. There was silence for little time and then came the reply." "The man who made this war bad the soul of a devil." (Hear, hear.) Lord Reading spoke highly of the work of the Red Cross, and expressed an opinion that good would result from the evil of the war, and it reated with us to make the best of it and to ask the people of the Allied nations to noc to it, and France and Britain would, that from such terrible scenes of horror and destruc tion should arise a better spirit among the peoples of the world who would under stand each other better and have greater Tova for each other, for humanity, for: the preservation of liberty and justice.

COMRADESHIP OF PEACE.

Lord Burnham said there could be no question that the activities of the society would be greater in the times of peace even than in the burning days of war. We had to protect ourselves in the futuro. as we had in the past against the poisoned gas of enemy propaganda, not by the mask of concealment, but by the pure air of truth, and it was necessary that they should know one another better in order to establish the fullest understanding bo tween the two peoples on the basis of the frankcat and the frement friendship. If an illustration wore wanted of the lack of trag understanding one of the oiler it could be found in the expression hoard at the beginning of the war, that "we saw a doy Franco.
