A VISIT TO CARLISLE.
IN
LONDON, December 29th. President and Mrs. Wilson visited Carlisle, where the President's grand- father was a Congregational minister, and his mother was born They were ceremoniously received and enthusinati cally welcomed. The President signed the burgess roll as a Treenaan.
The proceedings were quiet owing to it being & Sunday,
President and Mrs. Wilson will proceed to Manchester, where the President will receive the Freedom of the City.
A VISTORIC DINNER.
LONDON, December 20th..
The Prime Minister entertained Presi dent Wilsongo dinner at No. 10, Downing Street, yesterday, to meet the Imperial War Cabinet. The 3 guests included General Smuts, General Botha, Sir Robert Borden, Mr. W. M. Hughes, Mr. E. P. Lloyd, the Malfaraja of Bikanir, Sir S. P. Sinha, Sir George Foster, Sir Joseph Cook, Sir Douglas Haig, Admiral Str David Heatty, and Rear-Admiral Sir Roselyn Wemyss.
The dinner was purely informal. Mr. Lloyd George sat at one end of the table with President Wilson on his right and Sir Robert Borden on his left Mr. Bonar Law sat at the other end, with Mr. W. M. Hughes on one side, and General Bothn on the other.
FREEDOM OF THE CITY OF MANCHESTER
LONDON, December 30th.
President Wilson this morning visited i the Manchester Ship Canal and then drove through the streets, which were lined with cheering growds, to the Town Hall, where a reception was held by the leading American residents of the city.
The great event of the day followed, namely, the conferring of the Frendom of the City, in the historic Free Trade Hall, which was packed with people long before the ceremony,
Responding to the conferving of the of the City, President Wilson emphasised the necessity of an easy and constant method of conference to settle disputes before they became serious, and so inaintain the peace of the world.

Speaking at a luncheon by the Lord Mayor of Manchester, President Wilson said We must now have unity of pur- puso. We must continue to advance shoulder to shoulder, now that there is no ring of plans except distrust and war.
