LAJÕUE CRICKET.
MANCHESTERS DEFEAT ENGINEERS. The Royal Engineers had luck dead against them when they met the Man- chestors at Happy Valley on Saturday, and suffered their third defeat in the: League. The Manchesters, who came into the League Inte, did very well against the University, and, now that, they have e feated the RE, the other teams in the League will not and the going easy. The Jafantrymen are a well-balanced team, with a couple of good bowlers and a very keen feld
The Manchesters batted fræt, and did as well as could be expected against the bowling of Strange, Waller and Raworth. Hail, who scored 108 against the Univers sity, barely got started when he was out to a fine catch by Pugh of Raworth. Maloney and Hall made
a good stand, but were not able to take any liberties. Keenan was the only other man in the eleven who was equal to the bowling. After having been afforded a life," he was undefeated at the end of the innings. Strange of the B.A.M.C who is just now attached to the Engineers bowled in good form, finishing up with the excellent average of 8 wickets for a frac tion over 4 runs apiece. Waller was put on to bowl at the end and captured the last two wickets in one over. Purnell, asually, the Engineers' best bowler, had an off day.
Tha Engineer innings started in a man ner that promised record in the way of low scores, Wahl opened with Lawrence, and the latter, who played in football gear and seemed anxious to get himself out 43 6000 as possible, attempted » a foolish run and" was stumped." Then Waller, Wahl and Strange were all dis- missed with the score standing at 6
runs. Wahl tried to hit our at a wide and was caught by Keenan, while Waller was dis- missed by a ball that kept low. With 4 wickets down for 3 runs," things did not look rosy, but Raworth and Jewsbury relieved the situation by careful batting. The bowling was not so hard that one could not play up to it, and Jewsbury contented himself with
patting the atraight balls and driving those which inclined to leg. The score rose gradually to 51 at which the innings terminated, the Manchesters thus winning the match by 30 runs. Scores:-

The match played on the Navy ground between the above teams showed that the Navy cricket team, in particulas, sad the Coloby, in general, has sustained a serious loss in the departure of F. J. D. The Navy cricket eleven felt his absence on Saturday, for they lost to the EG.A
result, which few expected. · Batting first, they scored 120 rane There was no display of marked merit on the side, but Holborn, Mayhew, Robinson, Wild and Breslin all did well. Mayhew, who as a rule bats with freedom, was more restrain- than usual. Holborn was shaping very
when he was dismissed by a remark good catch by Smith,, who, later on, off another excellent catch at expense. Graham, the R.G.A. grack bowler, was not in form, and was in charge of the ball far too long. Baines and Athorne took all the wickets.
The Navy were faced with the problem of whom to put on to bowl when the E.G.A. went in to bat. Their weakobss in this department was illustrated by the fact that the Artillery obtained the 190 uns required for victory with compara tive ease. Mann and Perkins opened the innings, but the latter was, bowled by Kennett with only a single to his credit, The partnership

KOWLOON DEFEAT THE CRC,
The vin scored by Kowloon against the C.R.O at King's Park was fully expected, for the Chinese have fared very badly in the League this year, whereas Kowloon have done surprisingly well
Eight of the nine Kowloon men who went to the wicket'obtained double figures, but the highest score on the side was 19 (compiled by Jam). Yow Man Taun and Led did the bulk of the bowling, and the former might have been relieved before he had delivered 22 overs, specially as he was only successful in taking one wicket Ng Se Ewong did not bowl at all. The folding left little to be desired.
The Chinese found Pestonji, on whom Kowloon has come to depend so much in bowling, in his best form. He started by taking two wickets for no runs, and, Ng 88 Kwong and Chow Yat Cheong had done their little best to spoil his average, Anished up by taking 3 wickets for 8 runs in his last two overs. His average was 7 wickets for 6 runs splece. Ng Bo Kwong batted very ateadily for 98 runs, but his colleagues could not follow his example The innings realised only 66 runs, Kowloon therefore won by 14 Scores:-

CRAIGENGOWER DEFEAT UNIVER.
SITY.
As
The Craigingower Club must consider themselves fortunato in, gaining a victory over the University on Saturday. anticipated, the University men did not shape well on a ground to which they were accustomed. The wicket was in excel- lent condition, and when the University team won the toss, their supporters' anti-f cipated a big total. That anticipation, however, was not realised, the whole team being disposed of for the meagre totzi of 60 runs. The only batsmen to enter double figures were: 3. D. Wright (13) and D. K. Samy (14). Lammert bowled very well at the start for Craigengower. At one stage the University had lost fre wickets for 2 runs, Lammert being responsible for taking thres at a cost of two runs apiece. Towards the close of the game, however, Lammert's deliveries lost some of their "sting" and were hit rather more freely. Nevertheless, at the close he had the good average of 4 for 18. team wis

The Indian Recreation Club, who made their first appearance in local cricket, showed signs of developing into & good team. CIVIL SERVICE DEFEAT 3RD CO.
E.G.A.
The Civil Service "A" team fulfilled expectations when they defeated the 83rd Co. R.G.A on Saturday at Happy Falley. Batting first they scored 188 rans for even wickets and then declared their innings closed. As usual, A. E. Wood was the chief contributor. The bowling. was easy, the fielding lax, and Wood took the opportunity of lashing out at every possible ball: His score of 83, included "two sixes' 'and twelve foars. He was extremely lucky, for he offered four chances, thres of them to the same man. Crocker added 31 by similar happy-go- lucky hitting, and Edmonds was not out with 1 to his credit. Bharp captured five wickets, but as the bowling analysis was not, kept, it is not possible to give 45:his Lverage.
