The principal change in the Local Code is that the new signals will show the direction from which the gale is expected, whereas the old signals showed the posi tion of the typhoon The latter will be indicated, as heretofore, by the non-ioca! signals. The new Local Code is given below:

CALCUTTA LINE-This Line is temporarily disorganised owing to the war, hat at present a monthly service is maintained with Calcutta by the xx. "KWAIBANG” and "VITIM," Calling at Singapore and Penang. The former vessel has excellent passenger accommodation, le fifted with Electric Light and Fans, and carries a filly qualified Surgeon. BINGAPORE LINE:-The LA "VAN WAERWIJCK" leaves for Singapore approxi- mately every fortnight. This vessel has excellent accommodation for First-class and is fitted throughout with Electric Light and Fans and also carries s Ballded Surgeon falls SHANGHAI LINE-Sailings-approximately every five days between Canton and Shanghai, sometimes calling at Swatow. Steamers on this line have & limited amount of passenger accommodation, and through tickets can be obtained for Northern and Tangtae Ports via Shanghai. Through Bills of Lading, are issued to all Northern and Yangtare Ports.

MANILA LINEA weekly service is maintained with Manila by vessals with good

passenger accommodation, sailings from both ports every Friday,

HAIPHONG LINE-Slings "pproximately weekly for passengers and cargo, calling

at Hollow when inducement offers.

BORNFO LINE-One sailing per month between Hongkong and Sandakan by a

steamer having up-to-date socommodation for passengers.
